FutureMakers Finale: 'Ishara' Sign Language Translator Team Watermelon Takes Top Honor
The project titled “Ishara: Bangla Sign Language Translator” secured the championship in the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based idea competition FutureMakers, held with participation from university students across the country. The winning team, Team Watermelon, was awarded the FutureMakers Champion title for their innovative solution.
Team Ophion earned the First Runner-up position for their project titled “AI-Driven News Credibility Platform.” Meanwhile, Team Synapse, for their project “AI Inclusion for Differently-Abled Learners,” and Team Lasta, for their project “Disha: Financial Inclusion Through AI,” were jointly recognized as Second Runner-up.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, 5 November, at Le Méridien Hotel in the capital.
The awards were presented by members of the judging panel, including Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Grameenphone; Syeda Tahia Hossain, Chief Human Resources Officer; Dr. Asif Naimur Rashid, Chief Business Officer; and Dr. Niranjan Srinivasan, Chief Information Officer.
Senior officials from Grameenphone were also present at the event.
The FutureMakers competition began in September 2025, with participation from talented students representing various universities across the country. After the initial selection phase, the shortlisted teams presented their AI-based concepts before an expert panel of judges.
