Bangladesh first entered the global World Cyber Games (WCG) arena in 2005 through national qualifiers held at Bashundhara City, facilitated by the now-defunct Computer Source. In 2008, Team Extreme Lungiz became the first Bangladeshi team to participate internationally at Cologne, Germany. The following year, North South University hosted a competition for 1,200 gamers. In 2010, Arafat Janin clinched victory at the FIFA Asian Championship. Since then, 15 years have passed.

After a one-and-a-half-decade hiatus, Bangladesh is set to rejoin the global e-sports stage with the World Cyber Games. For the first time, Bangladeshi gaming creators and digital influencers will participate in the WCG Global Creator Festival 2025, scheduled to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 12 to 14 December.

WCG Director Kyungjun Kim, commenting on the return in partnership with e-Sports Bangladesh, said, “This partnership is not just a business opportunity; it is an investment in the future. The talent and potential emerging from Bangladesh is unique.”

Sumit Saha, Founder and CEO of e-Sports Bangladesh, added, “I participated in WCG as a player in 2010 and later joined as an organizer in 2012. Now, we are officially bringing WCG back to Bangladesh. This is not just a return; it is a new beginning. This time, our country’s creators are expected to make history on the international stage.”
