July Journeys Documented: Ministry of Culture Releases 10 Docu-Films on YouTube
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has released 10 new documentaries from the July-themed program Punorjagoron (Renaissance) on its official YouTube channel. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) announced the release on August 3 and shared the streaming links, which are also being distributed via mobile operators for wider reach.
Among the documentaries, "Requiems for July Martyrs" focuses on the solemn memories of July's fallen heroes, while "July Birgatha" (Tales of Heroism in July) highlights the story of Abu Bakar Siddiq, a freedom fighter who lost his voice in the revolution.

The gripping documentary "You Failed to Kill Abrar Fahad," also produced under the ministry's initiative, is now available online. Viewers can also watch Remembrance episodes dated July 16, 17, and 18, which delve into day-wise events from the recent revolution.
Other notable titles include "Heroes Without Capes: Private Universities in July", showcasing the contributions and sacrifices of university students such as martyr Deepto Dey and martyr Faisal Ahmed Shanto. A moving trailer titled "Will You Ever Sleep, Ma?"—a docu-drama featuring mothers of July martyrs—has also been released, with the full film available for viewing.

As part of the Remembering Monsoon Revolution initiative, the Ministry of Culture selected eight filmmakers from across eight divisions to create mid-length films representing regional stories of resistance and sacrifice. The selection was announced in January in the presence of cultural advisor Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and jury member Suman Rahman. Chosen filmmakers include Anam Biswas, Humaira Bilkis, Shankha Dasgupta, Shaheen Dill-Riaz, Rabiul Alam Robi, Tasmiah Afrin Mou, and Md. Tawkir Islam.

On July 2, Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuz Alam confirmed that the government would finance the production of two full-length feature films and eight short and documentary films centered on the July uprising. Additionally, one full-length documentary, one short film, and another short documentary will address issues of enforced disappearances, killings, and state repression over the past 16 years.
The Bangladesh Film Archive is set to begin work on more than 200 documentaries related to the July revolution. The Department of Films and Publications (DFP) has already completed nine short films and documentaries, while BCTI has produced six short films. State-run broadcaster BTV plans to air 36 documentaries over 36 days in July, along with four special features.
These initiatives reflect a concerted national effort to memorialize the events and sacrifices of July through powerful visual storytelling.
