X Introduces Controversial Update to ‘Block’ Feature
Social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has introduced an update to its 'block' feature, diverging from practices common on other platforms, reports Mashable.
On Sunday, the official X account announced, “We’ve begun rolling out the updated block function.”
Previously known as Twitter, X had signaled plans to modify its blocking feature, sparking criticism at the time—and the latest update has continued to fuel debate.
Under the new update, blocked users will still be able to view the profile and public posts of the user who blocked them, although they will not be able to react, message, or reply to these posts. Previously, blocked users were restricted from seeing any content from the blocker’s account, a standard feature upheld by other social media platforms.
The new feature has raised concerns that malicious users may continue to monitor public updates of those who blocked them, potentially causing unwanted distress or discomfort.
