They deny the mourning and change their profile photos with RED circle
In memory of those who are killed in the massacre surrounding the quota reform movement, the Cabinet Department has issued a notification to observe mourning from the morning on Tuesday, July 30th. Professions, including government officials and employees are requested to observe the day wearing black badge. Contrarily, the students involved in the quota reform movement and their supporters are expressing their grief and anger with red profile photos on social media.
Apart from posting red circles on their profiles, many of them are seen posting individual and group pictures with red cloth tied around their eyes and face.
Abdul Hannan Masood, a coordinator of the Movement Against Oppression, the anti-discrimination student movement, said, "The government made a mockery with the martyrs by declaring a day of mourning in memory of the victims by carrying out mass killings across the country and then referring to the students' movement as 'violence'. In protest we boycotted their black badge program. They still have blood on their hands. So, our program is to do an online campaign by tying red cloth over the face and eyes.'
Earlier on Monday (July 29) in the notification of the Cabinet Department, it was said that in the name of anti-quota movement, mourning will be observed on July 30 in memory of those killed in violence, vandalism, arson, looting and terrorist activities. On the other hand, through a statement at night, the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, who were out of police custody, announced a plan to take photos with red cloths tied around their eyes and faces and widely disseminate them online.
