The United States wants to provide technical assistance in energy sector
Charge d'Affaires of US Embassy called on the Advisor, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridge
The United States wants to support the development of Battery Energy Storage System and the purchase of train locomotives in Bangladesh with emphasis on renewable energy enrichment and technological aspects. In addition, the country has expressed interest in investing in Land Based Gas plants and supporting Bangladesh in future construction of roads, bridges and tunnels.
Helen LaFave, Charge D’affaires of the US Embassy in Bangladesh, expressed this interest during a meeting with Road Transport and Bridges Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan on Thursday at the office of the Ministry in the Secretariat.
During the meeting, the road transport and bridge advisor thanked the United States for the friendly relations between the two countries and mutual partnership and cooperation in various developmental sectors of Bangladesh. At this time, he informed the charge d’affaires about the strict and rigid stance of this government against corruption, injustice and discrimination.
The advisor said that the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) section 34(a) has already been removed to ensure transparency and accountability of the government to the people. Instructing the completion of the procurement process through open competitive tenders, the advisor further said that the power and energy sector boards are being reformed and restructured.
James Gardiner, acting economic head of the United States Embassy, Reed Aeschliman, USAID's Mission Director, John Fay, Commercial Lead, and senior officials of the ministry were present in the meeting.
