After a day of upward movement, Bangladesh’s stock market experienced a decline on Thursday, November 28, with most shares and units on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) recording price drops. This downward trend led to a decrease in the benchmark index. However, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) presented a contrasting picture, with most shares and units gaining value, resulting in an increase in its benchmark index and trading volume.

Performance Highlights
The DSE’s benchmark index, DSEX, dropped by 5.34 points to close at 5,192. Meanwhile, the Shariah index, DSES, gained 0.31 points to settle at 1,166, and the DS30 index declined by 1.19 points to 1,916. Total turnover on the DSE stood at BDT 473.75 crore, a 5% drop from the previous day’s BDT 451.16 crore.

Out of 390 traded securities, 125 advanced, 196 declined, and 89 remained unchanged.

Technology Sector Highlights
The technology sector saw significant activity, with Genex Infosys emerging as the second-highest in turnover value, trading shares worth BDT 12.16 crore. A total of 3,815,023 shares changed hands, marking a 1.94% rise in share price from the day’s opening of BDT 31.20 to the closing at BDT 31.60. Earlier in the week, Genex Infosys experienced a sharp drop of 14.90% on Monday but rebounded with increased activity on Thursday.

Agni Systems also featured prominently, ranking fourth in sectoral turnover with shares worth BDT 9.68 crore traded. However, the company’s share price fell from an opening of BDT 27.30 to close at BDT 26.70. The previous week, Agni Systems topped the turnover list on the DSE.

Broader Market Overview
On the DSE, the trading session saw a decline in the value of 196 securities, while 125 gained and 89 remained unchanged. At the CSE, most securities recorded gains, contributing to the positive movement in its indices.

Thursday’s mixed momentum reflects investor caution and selective trading amidst fluctuating market conditions. Analysts suggest monitoring the technology sector closely, as it continues to exhibit significant activity despite broader market uncertainties.
