The interim government has taken necessary steps to bring the judicial processes of the higher and district courts fully under the purview of the e-judiciary system. As part of this initiative, a bench of the Supreme Court’s High Court Division handling company-related cases will commence fully paperless judicial proceedings from Sunday, January 5.

A senior official of the Supreme Court stated that an online platform has been prepared under the supervision and innovation of the Supreme Court itself, enabling the submission of all documents online for this specific bench. The Chief Justice has plans to extend paperless operations to other benches of the Supreme Court gradually by 2025. In the long term, district courts across the country will also adopt fully paperless judicial procedures.

Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed has described the year 2025 as “a year of new beginnings” for the judiciary of Bangladesh, as outlined in his declared roadmap. Steps have already been undertaken to implement various initiatives under this roadmap.

In a related announcement, it was stated that other short-, medium-, and long-term plans under the Chief Justice’s roadmap are also being implemented. Particularly, Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed is committed to the implementation of e-judiciary. Necessary measures are being taken to integrate the judicial processes of the higher and district courts under the e-judiciary framework.

The Chief Justice expressed his optimism that by 2025, the judiciary of Bangladesh will be completely free from the influence of the executive branch and will reap the benefits of institutional independence. As an independent organ of the state, the judiciary will devote itself to serving the people, fulfilling the aspirations of the July-August revolution of 2024.
