Banglalink deposited Tk. 50 crore to BTRC as a part of audit objection dues
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission-BTRC accepted Tk. 50 crore from Banglalink of the audit objection amounting to Tk. 823 crore 5 lakh. On Sunday (July 30) afternoon, the regulatory commission received the money as a part of the demand for 2G license.
On June 26 this year, BTRC sent a letter to Banglalink to pay the audit objection amount. At first, the operator was asked to pay that amount of money within 10 days. Later, Banglalink applied and extended some time. But on Thursday (July 27) BTRC did not accept the payment of Tk. 50 crore, saying that it would pay a total of Tk. 427 crore including the principal amount of the audit objection.
According to sources, BTRC returned that money without depositing it on that day as there was a condition that this money would be returned in case of settlement.
After that, BTRC wrote to Banglalink on Sunday (July 30) asking for Tk. 823 crore 5 lakh. Then in the afternoon they accepted the money without any conditions.
It may be noted that, after 1 year and 9 months after the appointment of the auditor, BTRC accepted the final report on the audit objection claim on May 18 this year. After that, concerned departments including finance division observed various issues and demanded money from Banglalink. Out of the total amount of 427 crores including the principal amount, 200 crores and the remaining 227 crores are requested to be paid in installments. Besides, the operator has demanded exemption of late fee from BTRC in paying installments. Banglalink applied for late fee waiver in case of payment of dues. After that an audit objection condition is given in case of first payment of Tk. 50 crore and depositing the original amount before it is settled.
