Bangladesh Secures Record 20 Spots in ICPC West Asia Semifinals

From the Dhaka regional site, Bangladesh has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing 20 spots in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) West Asia Semifinals. Among 2,500 teams from across the region, these teams have demonstrated exceptional speed and problem-solving capabilities. A total of 65 teams have advanced to this round from seven regional sites, including four from Topi, three from Kabul, five from Tehran, 16 from Amritapuri, nine from Kanpur, and eight from Chennai.

The third phase of the ICPC regional competition is scheduled to take place in Dhaka on March 7-8, where the top-performing teams will compete for a place in the final round. The Bangladeshi teams that have advanced to this stage include Quasar and Hotasha from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET); Singularity and Primordius from University of Dhaka (DU); 998244353 and B_Team from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET); Fanatics from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST); LastRunForMemories from Cumilla University; CocolaChampionBiscuit from Islamic University of Technology (IUT); Crows from BRAC University; Strygwyr from Daffodil International University; the0dd1out from Jahangirnagar University; Code_Monkeys! from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET); BinaryMosFet from Jahangirnagar University; S_Cube from University of Rajshahi; ErrorMakers from Khulna University; Waving_Flag from Islamic University; 495_fanclub from East West University; Returned From Breaking Point from Patuakhali Science and Technology University; and FLARE from Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST).

For the first time, Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has secured a place in the semifinals with team FLARE. The team consists of Masum Billah and Niloy Das from the 2019-20 academic session and Tahsin Arafat from the 2021-22 academic session of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).

During the second phase of the contest, which was held offline in Dhaka on December 6-7, team FLARE ranked 22nd among 307 competing teams, securing its place in the third phase. Eventually, only three teams will be selected for the final (fourth) round.

The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is the world’s largest competitive programming event, where students showcase and enhance their problem-solving and computing skills. The competition is often referred to as the “Olympics of Computer Programming”.
