Bangladesh won two medals including Bronze in Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad

Bangladesh has received bronze medal and honorable recognition in the 17th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, a global competition for high school students. The bronze medal was won by Tasdiq Ahmed, a student of Govt Laboratory High School, Rajshahi. And Labib Bin Azad, a student of Notre Dame College, received honorable mention.

Students from a total of 53 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan, participated in this competition held on August 17-26 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 17th edition of the Olympiad is organized by The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics Committee, The National Observatory of Brazil and The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil.  

5 students from Bangladesh participated in the current event. They are Tasdiq Ahmed and Sham Un Muhebbu Sajid, students of Govt Laboratory High School, Rajshahi; Labib Bin Azad, Sheikh Hasin Abrar and Raad Chowdhury of Notre Dame College. Apart from them, Fahim Razit Hossain and Mahmud Un Nabi participated as the team leaders.

Bronze medal winner Tasdiq said, 'I participated in the first Olympiad when I was in the sixth grade. Ever since then I dreamed that one day, I will represent Bangladesh at global level. My dream has come true. But I will try again to raise the country's flag higher.

Team leader Fahim Rajit Hossain said, 'This year most of the students have participated in the Olympiad for the first time. As Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad is relatively new in Bangladesh, we are happy with this achievement of the students. We will try to see how they can do better in the future.'
