Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that skilled manpower will be developed in the country through Artificial Intelligence-AI training. At the same time, she emphasized the importance for Muslims to invest in education and research and development of science and modern technology through friendship and brotherhood.

The head of the government of Bangladesh made this call while addressing as the Chief Guest at the 35th convocation ceremony of Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in Gazipur on Tuesday (May 30).

The Prime Minister said, ‘we want to build a knowledge-based smart Bangladesh. Smart Bangladesh will have a smart government, a smart economy, a smart population, a smart society and smart manpower. People will be made proficient in using digital devices; So that they can contribute to the fourth industrial revolution’.

The PM also said that the purpose of Smart Bangladesh is to use digital devices in education, health, agriculture, industrial production, business and commerce in keeping with the changing world. To achieve the target we are setting up digital labs in all educational institutions from primary to higher education. Computer training and incubation centers and hi-tech parks are being developed across the country.

In her speech, the Prime Minister commented that Muslims are lagging behind due to their discord, lack of amity and respect for each other and not progressing in the practice of knowledge and science. She said, during the golden age of Islam, the contribution of Muslims in various branches of world civilization, epistemology, literature, history, philosophy, chemistry, mathematics, medicine, astronomy and geography made a glorious history. Muslims have also excelled in literature and culture. We need to analyze why those Muslims fell back now.

The Prime Minister said that Muslims are lagging behind due to various reasons including discord among themselves, lack of amity and respect for each other, backwardness in the practice of science. To regain respect, Muslims need to re-invest in education and research and develop science and modern technology.

Pointing out that Muslims today have a significant amount of wealth, Sheikh Hasina said, we should use this wealth for the development of science and modern technology to bring back our lost heritage. In the modern era, sadly only three Nobel Prizes have been awarded to the Muslim world, reflecting their insufficient contribution to global research and development.

Now, Muslims need to pay more efforts in the field of science and technology, so that they can contribute more. Especially, as the world enters the fourth industrial revolution era with advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, Internet of Things, quantum computing and other technologies.
