Summer school on STEM education Completed
The closing ceremony of “Asian University for Women' (AUW) Math and Science Summer School 2022” was recently completed at the Asian University for Women campus in Chattogram. The program was first started in 2019 by Chevron Bangladesh and Asian University for Women, but the program was postponed due to the Corona pandemic. "Asian University for Women (AUW) Math and Science Summer School 2022" is back in 2022 after almost 2 years.
The Asian University for Women (AUW) has re-launched its Summer School in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in 2022 to further motivate talented students after the Corona outbreak. A total of 71 budding students from all over Bangladesh were selected for this four-week program “Asian University for Women (AUW) Math and Science Summer School 2022” organized by Chevron to focus students on mathematics, science and computer coding.
The sole aim of the program was to enhance the skills of the students and make them more aware of their future. The Summer School 2022 program was completed for a total of 25 days from July 17 to August 11.
The main subjects in the summer school curriculum were Physics, Mathematics and Bio-informatics. An experienced and skilled team of international and local faculty has worked to make these courses more accessible to the students. The math and science courses were led by Mr. Joshua Talbot. The computer coding course was led by Mr. Cole Baker from USA, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The “Asian University for Women (AUW) Math and Science Summer School 2022” provides opportunities for students to delve deeper into the world of STEM through lively activities and lectures. After participating in this program the students now have a strong attitude about their careers.
Chevron Bangladesh Director of Corporate Affairs Muhammad Imrul Kabir and Chevron Bangladesh Human Resource Director Mrs. Nafisa Hossain Monali were present as guests of honor.
Muhammad Imrul Kabir in his speech lauded this joint effort between Asian University for Women and Chevron and especially applauded the spontaneous participation of students in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics Departments.
Dr. Veena Khurana, Dean of Arts and Sciences, Asian University for Women and Dr. Mary Vialiprampil, Director of the Office for Advanced Learning, moderated the event. Mrs. Rubaba Daula, Country Managing Director of Oracle Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan was present as the chief guest on the occasion.
At the closing ceremony, merit certificates were awarded to the meritorious students. The family and friends of the students were also present at this time. Six students were awarded the “Emerging Female Scholar Award” for Leadership Initiatives and Exemplary Activities. Two high school students were also awarded for supporting peers during Summer School 2022.
