A fire broke out in the 7th building of the Secretariat, damaging four floors from the 6th to the 9th. Among the affected areas was the 8th floor, where Md. Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, had his office. In addition to his work with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he also held meetings related to postal, telecommunications, and ICT matters in this office.

However, the office was severely damaged by the sudden fire on the night of Wednesday, December 25. Nahid visited the burnt office on Thursday afternoon, showing signs of distress on his face. After inspecting the building, he silently left the area.

Earlier, during the inspection, the advisor spoke with the on-duty officers in the Secretariat, including Police Constables Rameshwar, Liton, and others, discussing the time when the fire started.

Meanwhile, following the fire, no officer or staff member was allowed to enter the affected 7th building. Employees of the ministries located in the building were seen waiting outside.

In a Facebook status at 12:47 PM, Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation and Chief Organizer of the National Citizens' Committee, wrote a message directed at Advisor Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Mahfuz Alam, urging them to take a revolutionary stance. "The entire Bangladesh stands with you," he stated.

He further wrote, "Over the past 16 years, some of these bureaucrats were part of the sycophantic group of the Awami League. It was through their support that Hasina consolidated her power in the country. Whenever the revolutionaries have investigated Hasina’s misdeeds, corruption, looting, and other wrongdoings, the supporters of Hasina, who have been hiding in the Secretariat, destroyed files related to these crimes by setting them on fire. To reform the state, we must first uproot the sycophantic bureaucrats who are still lurking in the administration and uproot them from their roots."
