Bangladesh, which has been in the list of the least developed country since 1975, fulfilled all the conditions of CDP in 2018 to become a developing country. Bangladesh has come a long way in fulfilling the conditions in all the three indices. The per capita income of a developing country is at least 1230 US dollars, in 2020 the per capita income of Bangladesh was 1827 US dollars. At the 40th Plenary Session of the 76th Meeting on 24 November, the UN General Assembly approved the recommendation to move Bangladesh from the list of least developed countries to a developing country.
The government is celebrating this achievement on Sunday. In the morning, the formalities started at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the celebration online.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak came on stage in a new role after the national anthem and religious prayers.
