Instagram banned in Russia
Facebook has recently changed its policy and called for a violent crackdown on Russian troops. In retaliation, Russia has filed criminal charges against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. In the wake of that incident, Instagram too has been shut down in the country since Monday, March 14.
Russia's state-run news agency Tas reported that the ban was imposed by the Russian Federal Service for the Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media. Earlier on Friday, regulator Roscommonzaro imposed a 48-hour time on users of the app.
Before the closure of Instagram in the country, Russian reality television star Olga Buzova made a touching tweet. There he wrote, ‘I am writing this post now and crying. But hopefully the closure may not be true and we will stay here. '
Earlier, Adam Moseri, the head of Instagram, confirmed that the photo-video sharing platform had been blocked in the Russian market. Earlier, on March 4, the Russian government shut down Facebook.
