The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to issue an official response to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Bangladesh’s Victory Day. At the same time, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Md. Touhid Hossain, will travel to Thailand on Wednesday (December 18) to attend discussions on Myanmar’s escalating internal conflict, border issues, and regional crimes.

Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (December 17), Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain commented on Modi’s tweet, stating, “Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has expressed his view on this matter in his own way; we will express ours in our own way. The Indian External Affairs Minister has also congratulated me on Victory Day.”

The adviser further noted that his visit to Thailand is in response to an invitation from the Thai Foreign Minister to attend an informal discussion on Myanmar and the Rohingya crisis.

Md. Touhid Hossain elaborated, “This is somewhat outside the scope of formal talks, where direct official discussions usually take place. The agenda includes three key topics—border issues, crime, and the overall Myanmar situation. What I will say will depend on the conversations held there. It would be premature and inappropriate to make any statements beforehand.”

He stressed that Bangladesh’s primary concern remains the repatriation of the 1.3 million Rohingya refugees currently residing in Bangladesh. “They must be returned to Myanmar with assurances of safety and their rights protected,” he said.

The adviser’s visit underscores Bangladesh’s continued diplomatic efforts to address the Rohingya crisis while managing the challenges posed by Myanmar’s internal instability.
