The Cyber and Special Crime Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two members of a gang who embezzled millions of taka with fake appointment letters with QR codes to gain credibility. The detainees are Md. Mosharraf Hossain and Md. Zia Uddin. At that time, 3 mobile phones, 7 SIM cards, fake question papers of different jobs, admission cards and appointment letters used for cheating were seized from their custody. The two frauds were brought before the media at the DB office on Minto Road on Tuesday, May 17 at noon. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of the DB's Cyber and Special Crime Division, Mohammad Tareq Bin Rashid, said they were detained during an operation in the Ananda Nagar area of Darussalam police station at midnight on Monday (May 16). Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of the Organized Crime Investigation Team led the operation. Nazmul Haque said that the fraudsters keep the recruitment notices of various posts in different departments in their collection. Later, they made friends with people of different classes and professions and assured the job seekers and their parents that they would get the job by introducing themselves as senior officials of the concerned department. Describing the crime, Mohammad Tareq Bin Rashid further said that the accused persons first collected the job description, passport size photograph, scanned copy of signature and all other documents from the job seekers through e-mail. After this, by making a fake entry form through this information, sending it to the candidate's email and accepting money through bKash / Rocket, they informed that job seeker has been nominated for Viva. A few days later, another person called again with the identity of a senior official of the concerned department through a fake registered SIM card and asked them to pay some money for medical and other expenses through Bikash / Rocket. After receiving that money, the fraudsters made a fake appointment letter. In order to gain credibility, job seekers create a 'QR code' containing the candidate's name and address through the 'QR Code Generator' software and place it on the fake appointment letter. Candidates are asked to verify the validity of your appointment letter with 'QR Code Scanner'. When the candidate checks the QR code of his mobile with the scanner, it shows his information there and the candidate pays the full amount of the contract. Later, when the job seekers go to the concerned department with that appointment letter, they can find out that the appointment letter was fake. In the meantime, they turned off the used phones. He said they were arrested with the help of information technology led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Jewel Rana under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Fazlur Rahman. Attempts to arrest the other members of the ring are underway .
