Japan–Bangladesh Tech & Health Ties Deepen with Cancer Hospital Proposal From Ameer of Jamaat
Opposition Leader and Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has requested Japan to establish a specialized cancer hospital in Bangladesh.
He made the request during a meeting with Japan’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Shimada Tomoki on Friday, 8 May. The meeting took place at 5:30 pm local time in Japan, in the presence of senior officials from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to a press release issued by Jamaat, the meeting was held in a cordial, friendly, and mutually respectful atmosphere. At the outset, Vice Minister Shimada Tomoki congratulated Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on being elected as a Member of Parliament in Bangladesh’s recently held 13th National Parliament election and being nominated as the Opposition Leader in the Jatiya Sangsad.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on various issues of mutual interest, including the long-standing friendly and strategic relations between Bangladesh and Japan, expansion of trade and investment, infrastructure development, human resource development, and enhanced cooperation in education, health, and technology sectors. Both parties emphasized further strengthening and diversifying Bangladesh–Japan relations. In particular, the Opposition Leader requested Japan’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs to support the establishment of a specialized cancer hospital in Bangladesh.
From the Japanese side, Bangladesh’s economic progress, social development, and its significant role in regional stability were highly appreciated. Japan also expressed optimism about continuing its support for Bangladesh’s development and democratic advancement in the future.
At the meeting, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed gratitude for Japan’s long-standing development cooperation and friendly relations with Bangladesh.
He particularly highlighted Japan’s contributions to infrastructure development, communication systems, power sector development, and human resource development, expressing hope that economic and diplomatic relations between the two countries would further expand in the future.
Accompanying the Opposition Leader were Saiful Alam Khan Milon, a member of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem Arman, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Opposition Leader.
