The Election Commission (EC) has announced that correction services for National Identity Cards (NIDs) will resume from January 25.

The information was confirmed on Thursday, January 22, by A S M Humayun Kabir, Director General of the National Identity Registration Wing of the Election Commission. He said that all types of NID information correction services would be fully reinstated from Sunday (January 25).

Earlier, in preparation for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum, the EC had temporarily suspended NID correction services from 4:00 pm on November 24 in order to finalize the voter list. However, emergency correction services remained operational on a limited scale at the EC’s NID wing, based on individual applications.

It is worth noting that the total number of voters in the country now stands at 127,695,183. Among them, there are 64,814,907 male voters, 62,879,042 female voters, and 1,234 voters identified as third gender. The election management body prepared the final voter list by including citizens who turned 18 years of age by October 31 of the current year.

Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election, the Election Commission has published the final list of polling centers across the country. A total of 42,761 polling centers will be set up nationwide. Of these, 115,137 rooms have been allocated for male voters and 129,602 rooms for female voters, bringing the total number of polling rooms to 244,649. However, as the parliamentary election and the referendum will be held on the same day, the EC has decided to increase the number of secret voting booths.

Voting will take place on Thursday, February 12, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
