Digital Drive Deters Deception in Land Services
“Online land management has reduced the chances of fake land registrations and fraud. With online registration and e-mutation systems, ownership information is automatically updated, which significantly minimizes the possibility of producing false deeds and helps prevent land-related crimes. As per the directive of the Chief Adviser, a Land Services Digitization Team has been formed. This team reviews activities on a divisional basis and reports to the Senior Secretary every week,” said Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land, ASM Saleh Ahmed.
He made these remarks while presiding over the 77th team meeting at the ministry’s conference room on Monday, August 25.
The Senior Secretary further said, “Due to the use of modern science and information technology in land service delivery, the level of satisfaction among service recipients is gradually increasing. Likewise, inspections and monitoring have been intensified from the metropolis to the field level. If evidence of dishonesty in duty or harassment of service recipients is found in the inspection reports, action is being taken as per rules. Similarly, if corruption or harassment is proven through any other means, action is taken accordingly. There is no compromise on corruption in land services. Delivering people-friendly land services is the prime goal of the Ministry of Land.”
It was informed at the meeting that approval has been obtained from the Ministry of Finance for appointing the ministry’s own panel lawyers to ensure the proper management of important cases related to government interests. To curb illegal sand and soil extraction, regular mobile courts are being conducted and fines imposed. The overall situation was reported as satisfactory.
In addition, the Land Management Manual 2025 has been sent to Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners for feedback. Once the opinions are received, it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Law for vetting.
Furthermore, to preserve, modernize, and enrich the history and heritage displayed in the Land Museum at the Land Bhaban, Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to provide information on the evolution of land management as well as to send any instruments and equipment used in land surveys that hold heritage value to the Ministry of Land.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary (Administration Wing) Md. Shariful Islam, Additional Secretary (Survey and Settlement Wing) Saima Yunus, NDC, Additional Secretary (Development Wing) Md. Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (Field Administration Wing) Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, along with other senior officials of the ministry.
