Many developed countries even could not improve in MFS expansion as Bangladesh did: Telecom Minister
Mustafa Jabbar, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, said that the philosophy of Digital Bangladesh has gained worldwide fame. Through this, Bangladesh is rapidly moving towards a cashless society. Many developed countries even could not succeed to expand MFS this much.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a virtual discussion on 'Digital Technology in Allowance Distribution: Ensuring Transparency and Accountability' organized by Telecom Reporters Network, Bangladesh (TRNT) on Saturday.
TRNB President Rashed Mehdi presided over the ceremony where Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Director General of the Department of Social Services Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Project Director of the Primary Education Stipend Provision Project, Yusuf Ali, BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, former General Secretary, AMTAB; TIM Nurul Kabir and Managing Director of Nagad Tanvir A. Mishuk exchanged their views.
TRNB General Secretary Sameer Kumar Dey presented the keynote address.
The Minister for Posts and Telecommunications explained the continued progress of MFS as a wonderful advancement in digital financial services. This position of ours will serve as the foundation for our future. We are working on the progress of this sector and the government is committed to providing any assistance required.
He said that even in the Corona period, the 3G network has been transformed into the 4G in almost 100 percent of the country and has been extended to the outskirts of the country as well. Increased demand for data has been met, data speed has been expanded. Initiatives have been taken to improve the network by auctioning the spectrum.
The work of extending optical fiber networks to every union of the country including remote char, island and haor areas is being taken forward at a fast pace. The telecom minister said high-speed broadband internet connection would be completed in every union of the country by this year.
He further said that as a continuation of the Digital Bangladesh program, today 98% of the country's area is under mobile network and 70% of the total demand of mobile sets of the country is being manufactured in Bangladesh. We are even exporting Five G mobiles.
