Internet shut down also impacted the remittance flow

Internet was completely shut down across the country from the evening of July 18 (Thursday) to suppress the agitation run by the students demanding for quota reform in government jobs. Expatriates could not send any remittance due to internet blackout. This affects the remittance flow in the whole month. According to the report of Bangladesh Bank, remittances sent by expats fell to 13 crore 80 lakh 60 thousand dollars from the period between 21 and 27 July.

According to the updated report on remittance income of the central bank, the remittance came in at 40 to 50 crore dollars in the first three weeks of this month. Of this, 1-20 July comes 142 crore 93 lakh dollars. According to that, as of July 27, the remittance came in the country was 156 crore 74 lakh dollars.

Bangladesh Bank released this information on remittance flow on Monday (July 29).

According to this calculation, on the 27th day of July, the daily average remittance came in the country was 5 crore 40 lakh 54 thousand 74 dollars. This is less than the previous month (June). Remittance in June was 254 crore 16 lakh 50 thousand US dollars. Daily average of remittance in that month was 8 crore 47 lakh 21 thousand 666 US dollars.

Analyzing the data, it can be seen that in the first 13 days of July, the daily average of remittance flow was 7 crore 72 lakh 80 thousand dollars. Between July 14 and July 27, the daily average dropped to 4 crore 20 lakh 57 thousand 857 dollars.
