The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has recommended departmental action against eight female and five male members of the police for posting TikTok videos in Bangladesh Police uniform. Although the accused are in DMP, they are currently working in different districts. It is being investigated why the policemen are making offensive and visual video content in uniform despite the instructions. The matter of taking departmental action against them as per service rules is ongoing, said the police headquarters. Last year, the DMP had sent instructions to various units - 'Policemen should be more careful while making or sharing videos like TikTok or likee (using the app) while wearing police uniform'. It also said that one should be careful while wearing police uniform or uploading any police-related posts on Facebook. Apart from this, government institutions should follow the social media usage guidelines-2019. But on October 6, on behalf of the DMP Commissioner, a letter was sent to the concerned district police to take action against these 13 constables in an order signed by Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters and Administration) Abdul Momen on behalf of the DMP Commissioner. The accused are: Irene Akhter (Pirojpur), Ayesha Begum (Tangail), Pemana Islam (PTC, Rangpur), Abu Hanifa Nipu (Habiganj), Ripon Chakma (RRF, Chittagong), Rimon Barua (RRF, Chittagong), Md. Raihan Uddin (RRF, Chittagong), Kamrunnahar Akhtar (Noakhali), Sakira Akhtar (Habiganj), Shahana Parveen Shampa (Magura), Mosammat Rashni Yara (PTC, Tangail), Rezaul Karim (RRF, Chittagong) and Md. Ashiqul Haque (Jhalkathi). Meanwhile, in the instructions issued recommending departmental action against the accused, it is said that some policemen of the DMP are using social media to spread various provocative statements against the state and senior officials. A video of a 'police uniform' making derogatory gestures was uploaded to TikTok. It has been decided to identify the person and take departmental disciplinary action against him to prevent such activities. The directive asks the in-charge of each force to monitor the use of social media by colleagues. According to the order, the video was uploaded on TikTok by the policemen in uniform making derogatory gestures. Many people have negative comments on those video contents.
