Bashir Jamal Appointed New MD of Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust

The government has annulled the appointment of Muhammad Abdullah as Managing Director (MD) of the Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust. In his place, senior journalist Bashir Jamal has been appointed as the new Managing Director. Bashir Jamal is the chief reporter of Amar Desh newspaper and the Senior Assistant General Secretary of the Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union.

The decision was announced on Tuesday through two separate notifications issued by the Ministry of Public Administration. Bashir Jamal has been appointed to the post on a one-year contractual basis, subject to termination of any existing work relationships with other institutions or organizations. Other terms of the appointment will be defined in the contractual agreement.

Muhammad Abdullah had been appointed as Managing Director of the Journalists’ Welfare Trust on a two-year contract starting 18 September 2024. His remaining contractual term has now been terminated.
