Telecom law expert Saimum Reza Talukdar has been temporarily suspended from the BNP ICT Forum. This decision, made with the consent of the forum’s General Secretary, follows allegations that he demanded BDT 1 crore in exchange for bail shortly after resigning from his position as Prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal.

The information was disclosed in a letter signed by the Forum’s Office Secretary, Engineer Mo Juel, on 10 March.

Talukdar, however, has denied the allegations against him. In a post on his Facebook page, he stated: “It has been alleged that I demanded BDT 1 crore to secure the release of an accused and requested BDT 10 lakh in advance. This is completely false. Nothing of the sort happened, and I have not asked anyone for such an amount.”

Meanwhile, a five-member investigative committee has been formed by Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam to probe the alleged demand for BDT 1 crore in exchange for bail.

The committee is headed by the Chief Prosecutor, with other members including Prosecutor Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, newly appointed Prosecutor Marzina Rahman Madina, Mohammad Zahirul Amin, and International Crimes Tribunal Law Research Officer Sifatullah.

The prosecution stated that the reconstituted five-member facts-finding committee has been tasked with examining the overall investigative and prosecutorial matters of the International Crimes Tribunal. The committee will also investigate the alleged bribery claim involving the recently resigned Saimum Reza Talukdar.
