Meta’s Misuse: Stars’ Names and Faces in Flirty Chatbots
Meta has reportedly created flirty chatbots using the names and likenesses of Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, and Scarlett Johansson without permission, according to Reuters. These bots, active on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, often claimed to be the real celebrities during conversations with users and even made sexually suggestive remarks, Reuters reported.
The report stated that some of the bots were developed by Meta’s own employees and even produced intimate images of adult celebrities, in clear violation of the company’s own policies. Controversy deepened when it was revealed that a bot had also been created of 16-year-old actor Walker Scobell.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone admitted that such images violated company policies and confirmed that some bots had been removed.
Legal experts warn that under California’s “Right of Publicity” law, the practice could constitute a violation of celebrities’ commercial rights.
