Gazipur Digital University Observes Uprising Anniversary, Vows to Uphold July Spirit
Gazipur Digital University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf has said that “July is our spirit, and with that spirit we must build a safe and humane Bangladesh.” He made this statement while addressing the main event marking the first anniversary of the July People's Uprising, pledging to uphold its legacy as a national commitment.
The remarks came on Tuesday, August 5, during a special discussion titled “July Through My Eyes” held at the university’s academic premises in Kaliakair, Gazipur. The event also featured essay presentations, a video screening, and a poster competition centered on the uprising. Prizes were distributed to winners at the event.
“In 1971, the Liberation War laid our foundation, and the July 2024 uprising is its continuation,” said Professor Yusuf. “The July Uprising is a shining example of how the people of this country never bow down to injustice.” He paid deep respect to the martyrs of the uprising, especially Shaheed Abu Sayeed, and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Chaired by the university’s Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, the program featured welcome remarks by Registrar Muhammad Ataur Rahman Khan; Lecturer of Educational Technology and Engineering and Hall Provost Md. Rubel Sheikh; Section Officer of the Finance and Accounts Office Md. Saidul Islam; and students Wasif Ayan Nafis, Machura Jahan Maria, Ayesha Siddika Moni, and Razia Sultana Rakhi from various departments.
Student-created videos on the July Uprising were presented by Asif Sarkar from the Educational Technology and Engineering Department, Sharif Uddin from Software Engineering, and Sifat Al Huzayfa from the Internet of Things and Robotics Engineering Department.
As part of the “Uprising Day 2025 Reawakening Program,” the university earlier organized a solidarity march, led by the Vice-Chancellor, which began at the academic building and paraded through the main road of Kaliakair before returning to campus.
At the conclusion of the event, Professor Abu Yusuf inaugurated a month-long exhibition of essays, videos, and artwork in memory of the July Uprising martyrs and handed out awards to the winners.
In his closing remarks, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain stated, “The lessons of the July Uprising must become our ultimate learning. If we face similar circumstances in the future, it would be deeply unfortunate for us as a nation.”
