Telecom Transparency Taskforce Seeks Public Input on 15 Years of Alleged Corruption

A government-formed taskforce has decided to involve citizens and stakeholders in drafting a white paper detailing alleged corruption and irregularities in Bangladesh’s postal and telecommunications sector over the past 15 years. As part of that decision, the taskforce has officially invited public submissions of “any information, opinion, or recommendation related to irregularities or corruption” in the sector.
The notice, issued by the taskforce on 19 June, stated that the aim is to produce “a fact-based and comprehensive white paper.” Individuals possessing credible information related to “corruption in recruitment and promotion of personnel, consultant hiring, policy-level discrimination or irregularities, project approval and implementation anomalies, licensing regime mismanagement, or misuse of the Social Obligation Fund” are encouraged to come forward.
“All information and opinions received will be treated with utmost confidentiality and seriousness,” the notice assured.
Submissions can be made via email to [email protected] or through a virtual Dropbox at https://tinyurl.com/ptd-taskforce, accessible via QR code as well.
The initiative follows the formation of a taskforce on 21 April 2025 (Memo No. 14.00.0000.010.27.007.18 (Part-1)-143), approved by the Chief Adviser of the interim government. The taskforce is headed by eminent economist Professor Dr. M. Niaz Asadullah and is mandated to review systemic inefficiencies and financial misconduct within the sector over the last decade and a half.
