Tencent, Tech Titans, and the Transformation of Bangladesh's Digital Landscape

Alongside Starlink, Chinese internet conglomerate Tencent Holdings and Hong Kong-based digital sovereignty investor Osiris Group are reportedly preparing to enter the Bangladeshi market, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the interim government.
In a Facebook post published on Monday, Taiyeb wrote:
"Bangladesh welcomes American giant Starlink. Today, their license application has been approved by the Chief Adviser. The arrival of big tech giants in Bangladesh has begun under the leadership of the Chief Adviser. Many more will follow.”
Taiyeb added, “Today we had an official meeting with Chinese giant Tencent. They have expressed interest in entering Bangladesh. We have assured them of prompt policy support. Alongside, Osiris (Osiris Group) is also coming to Bangladesh. In partnership with the Bangladeshi data and cloud company Jatra, they are bringing hyperscaler cloud and data center infrastructure (at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park). A world-class secured cloud setup is being developed here for big giants, where players like Meta and Google’s payload services might also join.”
Founded in 1998, Tencent Holdings Limited is a Chinese multinational holding company offering a wide array of internet-related products and services, including entertainment, artificial intelligence, and technology across China and beyond. Meanwhile, Osiris Group—established in 2012 and based in Hong Kong—is a private equity firm that invests in emerging markets across Asia. Though it has yet to raise a fund, Osiris already holds investments in Bangladeshi ventures such as Pathao and Maya.
