Flipkart to Finalize Shift from Singapore to India

Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart, owned by Walmart and a key rival of Amazon in South Asia, is preparing to relocate its headquarters from Singapore to India, according to a report by TechCrunch.

In a statement released on Monday, Flipkart said, “This decision is a natural progression in Flipkart’s efforts to align its organizational structure with its core operations and the economic interests of India.”

Founded in 2007 in Bengaluru, Flipkart moved its headquarters to Singapore in 2011 in an effort to attract foreign investment, benefit from tax advantages, and navigate regulatory hurdles.

However, with an initial public offering (IPO) now planned within India, the company believes that relocating its headquarters will allow it to focus more effectively on domestic customers and the Indian market.

The company added that the move will better position Flipkart to serve its core consumer base and align more closely with its long-term strategic objectives in India.

The relocation trend mirrors recent moves by other Indian firms. In 2022, PhonePe—formerly part of Flipkart—shifted its base back to India. Other startups like Zepto and Groww have also recently moved their headquarters to India.
