DC Conference Day 3: Digital Security Drive and 180-Day ICT Action Plan in Focus

The third day of the Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference was held on Tuesday (May 5). On the occasion, the third session with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology took place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

The session was attended by Faqir Mahbub Anam, Minister of Science and Technology and of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. The Prime Minister’s Adviser, Rehan Asif Asad, also participated.

Among others present were Secretary of Science and Technology Md. Anowar Hossain, Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications Bilkis Jahan Rimi, ICT Secretary Kazi Anowar Hossain, former BTRC Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari, Director General of the Department of Posts Kazi Asadul Islam, along with heads of various agencies under the ministry.

In his remarks as the chief guest, Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam sought the cooperation of Deputy Commissioners in implementing the government’s 180-day action plan. After the meeting, he stated that work is ongoing at the district level to ensure digital security. He also emphasized that the government has taken a strict stance against rumors and cyberbullying.

The minister said that the ICT, telecommunications, and science ministries are working in coordination in line with the government’s election manifesto. “We are advancing our work based on the 180-day or six-month action plan set by the Honorable Prime Minister,” he added.

At the session, ICT Secretary Kazi Anowar Hossain also called for the support of Deputy Commissioners in preventing the spread of rumors at the field level.

It is worth noting that out of a total of eight working sessions scheduled for the day, the first session was held with the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces Division. Later, ministers and state ministers from the ministries of Local Government, Liberation War Affairs, Land, Power, and Energy also exchanged views with the DCs. In the afternoon, the Deputy Commissioners were scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court. The third day’s program was set to conclude in the evening with a discussion with the Chief Election Commissioner.
