Bangladesh Bots Bound for Gold Coast to participate in the 27th International Robot Olympiad
A 10-member Bangladesh team is set to participate in the 27th International Robot Olympiad (IRO), scheduled to be held from December 17 to 21 on Australia’s Gold Coast. The team will depart Bangladesh on December 14 to take part in the global competition.
The Bangladesh team members for the 27th IRO include Zubaidah Jafrin and Nafia Basar Suhani from Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College; Mohammad Jarif Bin Saleq, Khondkar Mushfiqul Islam, and Mohammad Mashrur Arefin Bhuiyan from Dhaka Residential Model College; Nusaiba Tazrin Tanisha from YWCA Higher Secondary Girls’ School; Jaima Jahin Wara from William Carey Academy; Priyonti Das from Scholastica School; Ridwan Rabbani from Ideal School and College; and Mohammad Abdullah Al Titu from Anandamohan College.
The team will be coached by Mishal Islam, with M. Tanzim Al Islam Dibosh serving as assistant coach. A. A. Munir Hasan, President of the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), will lead the delegation. Additionally, Professor Dr. Lafifa Jamal of the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Dhaka will participate in the Olympiad as a member of the central committee of the International Robot Olympiad.
Organised by the Bangladesh Open Source Network, the selection process began with an online preliminary round held on August 29–30, followed by the national round of the IRO Bangladesh Open 2025 on September 12–13 at the University of Asia Pacific in Dhaka. Winners from the Creative Movie, Creative Category, and Physical Computing Category were shortlisted through an intensive selection camp, where participants were evaluated on multiple performance criteria to form the international team.
The Bangladesh team is being sponsored by the ICT Division and the Department of Information and Communication Technology.
Notably, Bangladesh has been participating in the International Robot Olympiad since 2018. Over the past seven years, Bangladeshi teams have won 83 medals, including 14 gold medals, on the international stage.
