Microsoft Azure Affected Amid Red Sea Cable Cuts

Microsoft has reported that multiple subsea fiber-optic cables in the Red Sea have been damaged, potentially causing increased latency for users of its cloud platform, Azure. An updated status message from the company indicated that network traffic routed through the Middle East is temporarily affected, according to Engadget.

“We expect some traffic using the Middle East route to experience additional latency. However, traffic not passing through the Middle East is unaffected. We will provide regular updates if the situation changes,” Microsoft stated.

To minimize the impact on its cloud services, the company has rerouted traffic through alternative network paths. As a result, Azure operations have not been disrupted, though some users may notice slower speeds.

Azure currently ranks as the world’s second-largest cloud service provider, after Amazon Web Services (AWS).
