Red Sea Subsea Cable Cuts Disrupt Connectivity: NetBlocks Reports Connectivity Issues in India and Pakistan

Significant disruptions have occurred in internet connectivity across several countries following the cutting of a subsea fiber-optic cable in the Red Sea. Internet monitoring firm NetBlocks reported connectivity issues in India and Pakistan, according to The Verge.

On Sunday afternoon, Microsoft announced that new routing updates are being implemented for traffic between Asia and Europe that passes through the Middle East. “This may result in increased latency for some Azure users,” the company noted.

Experts have highlighted that repairing subsea cables is an extremely complex and time-consuming process. A report last year stated that ongoing conflicts and security challenges make such repairs in the Red Sea even more difficult.

This incident once again underscores how fragile the global internet infrastructure is and demonstrates how regional crises can impact online communication across multiple countries.
