Google Goes Experimental with AI Mode in India
Google has officially launched its experimental artificial intelligence-based feature, ‘AI Mode’, in India, introducing a question-and-answer-driven search tool capable of addressing complex and multi-layered queries. The development was reported by TechCrunch.
To access this feature, users must opt in separately via Google's Search Labs. While the tool currently only supports English-language queries, the company has not made any announcements regarding the inclusion of regional languages.
Indian users will benefit from voice and image search capabilities within the AI Mode. Google cited the widespread popularity of voice search in the country as a key reason for integrating this functionality.
This new mode is powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5. According to Google, the AI Mode has led users to pose questions that are two to three times longer than those in previous search experiences.
With over 870 million internet users, India remains one of Google’s largest and most strategically significant markets, often serving as a critical testing ground for emerging features. Amid the rising popularity of AI-driven services like ChatGPT and Perplexity, Google’s AI Mode aims to retain user engagement through enhanced, intelligent search capabilities.
