A committee to form with architects and museum experts to turn Ganobhaban a museum
Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Md. Nahid Islam said that a memorial meeting will be organized this month for the families of those who were martyred in the anti-discrimination student movement. At the same time, he commented that Ganobhaban is being turned into a museum to show the consequences to the world that what happens to the fascist, dictator and murderous statesmen.
He said, for this, a committee with architects and museum experts can be made by tomorrow (Sunday). It will soon be opened to the public.
He conveyed the matter while talking to reporters after visiting Ganabhaban at around 11 am on Saturday (September 7). At that time, the adviser on industry Adilur Rahman Khan and the adviser on youth and sports Asif Mahmud were also present.
Journalists wanted to know about the list of those who were killed and injured in the popular uprising to the advisers.
In response, Nahid Islam said, ‘We have made a list of martyrs, that list is almost done. We will organize a large commemoration meeting with the families of these martyrs this month. There will be an announcement of our foundation and its activities. And financial and other pledges for our wounded and martyrs will be given from there and the list will be announced there’.
He said that the Ganabhaban will be converted into a 'July Uprising Memorial Museum', that is why they have come to visit the Ganabhaban.
In response to a question about what he saw after visiting the Ganabhaban, he said, "Now we have seen a lot of wall-writing and graffiti inside." Many of the looted pieces of furniture were left behind by people, which have also been preserved. There is vandalism all around as an expression of people's anger. We will try to keep these angers as much as possible to museum.
The adviser said that as per the decision of the Cabinet, the Ganobhavan will be converted into a memorial museum of the July People's Uprising as soon as possible. This museum will have a comprehensive presentation of 16 years of disappearance, extrajudicial killings, 36 days of mass uprising, list of martyrs, memories. There will also be some digital presentations.
When asked what measures the government is taking regarding human rights violations in recent times, Industrial Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said, ‘We are taking initiatives to prevent such incidents from happening and we are repeatedly asking the law enforcement agencies to act in this regard. We have been against it since day one. As we have repeatedly said, we ensure that no one should be treated the way we were treated by the fascist regime’.
