The popular web browser Google Chrome now allows direct use of Google’s artificial intelligence-powered chatbot Gemini. Following its successful launch in the United States, Google has now rolled out this feature for countries across the Asia-Pacific region. As a result, users will be able to access all AI capabilities within the same window while browsing.

In an announcement today (21 April), Google stated that Chrome users in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam can now use the built-in Gemini feature. Earlier this year, the service was launched on a trial basis in Canada, India, and New Zealand. This new version of Gemini includes a dedicated sidebar designed to simplify the browsing experience. The sidebar can be activated by clicking the “Ask Gemini” icon located in the top-right corner of the browser.

The most significant advantage of this feature is that users can interact with Gemini or search for information through the sidebar while remaining on any tab. This eliminates the need to switch between tabs repeatedly. Through Gemini, users can also directly perform tasks across other Google apps, such as adding events to Calendar or managing tasks in Gmail. In addition, Google’s own image generator “Nano Banana 2” has been integrated into this feature, allowing users to create images instantly.

Except for Japan, the feature will be available not only on desktop versions but also on iPhone and iPad devices. Users who do not wish to use this AI shortcut can easily unpin or hide it by right-clicking.

Technology analysts believe that this direct integration of AI into the browser will give Google Chrome a competitive edge over Microsoft Edge and other browsers.
