A candidate has been expelled for malpractice in the ‘A’ Unit admission test under the 2025–26 academic session (GST cluster system) at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU).

The incident occurred on 10 April, Friday, at the Noakhali Government College centre.

According to reports, during the examination, invigilators discovered a mobile phone in the possession of a candidate. Upon further inspection, it was found that the individual was attempting to use artificial intelligence—Gemini—via the mobile device to obtain answers to the questions. After confirming the matter, the candidate was immediately expelled from the examination hall.

It is noted that the ‘A’ Unit admission test was held simultaneously at a total of 7 centres, including NSTU, on the same day. Out of 10,797 candidates, 7,801 were present, while 2,996 were absent, resulting in an attendance rate of 72.25 percent.

Meanwhile, the university’s Registrar’s Office reported that three students were expelled on Wednesday for engaging in malpractice during examinations. Two students from the Department of Social Work (academic session 2024–25) were expelled for one year (two terms), while one student from the CSTE Department (academic session 2021–22) received a six-month (one term) expulsion.

The centre authorities stated that such irregularities in a critical public examination like university admission tests will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Security measures have been further strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to university administration sources, strict monitoring was maintained throughout to ensure a fair and malpractice-free examination. The overall examination environment was secured through coordinated efforts involving the Noakhali district administration, police administration, and other relevant agencies. Due to these strict measures, the examination was conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
