Russia has expressed interest in providing technical assistance to Bangladesh in agricultural mechanization. The interest was conveyed by Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Grigorievich Khozin during a courtesy meeting with Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid at the Bangladesh Secretariat on 25 March, Wednesday.

The meeting, held in the conference room of the Ministry of Agriculture, featured detailed discussions on various issues of mutual interest, including the agricultural sector, food security, and import-export trade between the two countries. Agriculture Secretary Rafiqul E Mohamed, senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, and First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Dhaka Anastasia Nemova were also present.

At the outset, the Agriculture Minister welcomed the Ambassador, who in turn congratulated him on assuming office as a member of the Cabinet.

Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid stated that Russia has been a long-standing and trusted friend of Bangladesh, supporting the country for over 50 years across various sectors, including agriculture and technology. He noted that Bangladesh imports a significant portion of its non-urea fertilizers—particularly MOP—from Russia and urged the Ambassador to ensure the continuity of this supply in the future.

The Minister also called on Russia to increase imports of Bangladeshi products such as potatoes, mangoes, cucumbers, and processed food items.

Ambassador Alexander Khozin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to continuing cooperation in Bangladesh’s agricultural sector. He mentioned that Russia regularly imports potatoes and other agricultural products from Bangladesh. In addition to supplying fertilizers and seeds, he expressed his country’s interest in providing technical assistance in agricultural mechanization. The Minister expressed optimism about working jointly with Russia in this regard.
