Government Lifts Fuel Rationing from March 15 Ahead of Eid
The government has decided to withdraw the fuel rationing system for public transport ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr to ensure smooth passenger movement and uninterrupted transportation of goods across the country.
As a result, fuel supply and sales at all filling stations will resume normal operations from Sunday, March 15, until further notice.
The announcement was made on Saturday in Gulistan, Dhaka, by Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Sheikh Robiul Alam. The information was later confirmed to the media by Monir Hossain Chowdhury, Joint Secretary (Operations) of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
Earlier, the transport adviser said the existing rationing on diesel, petrol and octane would be withdrawn temporarily during the Eid period. From Saturday night, buses would receive adequate fuel without any restrictions.
Initially, it was planned that the rationing system would remain in place for motorcycles and other vehicles, while only public transport would receive unrestricted fuel supply. However, the government later decided to fully suspend the rationing system for all vehicles during the Eid period.
The adviser said fuel supply and sales would continue normally, as they were before the outbreak of the Iran war, until further instructions are issued.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division said an official notification regarding the decision would be issued on Sunday morning.
Officials added that the move aims to facilitate increased travel during the Eid holidays and ensure the smooth distribution of goods nationwide.
