Amid growing concerns over fuel supply due to the ongoing war situation in the Middle East, a ministerial-level meeting of the Indo-Pacific Energy Forum has convened in Tokyo to ensure reliable, affordable, secure, and rapidly dispatchable energy supplies.

Bangladesh’s State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud is visiting Tokyo to participate in the two-day Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum, which began on Saturday, 14 March.

The high-level international forum has been jointly organized by the U.S. National Energy Dominance Council and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Among the hosts present at the event are Council Chairman and US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Vice Chairman and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ryosei Akazawa.

In addition to Bangladesh, energy ministers from Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and Southeast Asian nations including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam are also participating in the conference.

During the conference, participating ministers will hold detailed discussions on strategies to build a strong and stable energy system in the Indo-Pacific region. In particular, the discussions will focus on how to ensure adequate, reliable, affordable, secure, and rapidly dispatchable energy supplies across the region.

Alongside the official agenda of the forum, Bangladesh’s State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud is expected to hold bilateral meetings with ministers and delegations from the United States, Japan, and Brunei, as well as representatives of other participating countries.

He is also scheduled to hold special meetings with representatives of various international private-sector organizations. The primary objective of these discussions is to attract foreign investment into Bangladesh’s energy sector and explore new avenues for mutual cooperation.
