Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has passed away, prompting deep sorrow from Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST).

Begum Khaleda Zia breathed her last at 6:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un).

In a condolence message, Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid described Begum Khaleda Zia as a symbol of national unity and resilience. He said her uncompromising leadership had helped the country successfully navigate critical moments of crisis at different times. With her passing, he noted, the nation has lost an experienced, wise, and influential political figure, creating a long-term void in the country’s political landscape.

He added that her tireless struggle and dedication to establishing democracy and protecting the rights of the people would continue to guide future generations for years to come. Her unique contributions to the nation and its people, he said, will remain eternally remembered.

On behalf of the teachers, students, officers, and employees of JUST, the vice-chancellor expressed profound grief at her demise, prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul, and conveyed deep sympathy to her bereaved family members, supporters, and long-time associates.
