Atlas EVs Arrive: Affordable Electric Mobility for the Masses
Atlas Bangladesh Ltd., a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Industries, has introduced four models of its new Atlas Electric Scooters to the domestic market. The models—S-100, S-90, S-80, and S-70—have been assembled at the company’s factory in Tongi, Gazipur, using imported components sourced through a technical cooperation and supply agreement with Zhejiang Luyuan Electric Vehicle Co. Ltd. (Luyuan), one of China’s leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers.
According to the manufacturer, these scooters have been specially designed to suit Bangladesh’s climate and road conditions. The models are powered by graphene batteries, enabling them to travel between 100 and 120 kilometers on a single full charge at an electricity cost of only Tk 15.
The market launch took place on Wednesday, 5 November, at the Atlas Bangladesh Ltd. (ABL) factory premises in Tongi, where Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan symbolically handed over keys to a customer to inaugurate the distribution of Atlas Electric Scooters. Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, Chairman of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) Md. Anwarul Alam, and Professor Mohammad Ridwanul Haque were present at the event.
Speaking at the inauguration, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan stated that the introduction of environmentally friendly Atlas electric scooters represents a commitment to building green, clean, and sustainable cities. “These scooters will contribute to easy and affordable transportation for the general public, including the youth. They will reduce our dependence on fuel and help conserve foreign currency. EV scooters will also assist in reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment,” he said.
He further remarked, “The foundation of the new Bangladesh born through popular uprising lies in environmentally friendly, technology-driven, and sustainable industrialization. The government has always supported the development of domestic industry, and this support will continue. Our aim is for the people of Bangladesh to use world-class domestic products and strengthen the national economy. In that respect, this electric scooter marketing initiative is undoubtedly a significant step.”
Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman said that the global shift toward electric vehicles is motivated by environmental sustainability. “Bangladesh’s electric vehicle policy is nearing finalization. With the launch of Atlas scooters, we have entered the EV sector. We will also bring EV cars to the market in the future,” he added.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Industries, Atlas Bangladesh Ltd., and representatives of the distribution network.
Earlier on 22 May this year, Atlas Bangladesh Ltd. announced its plan to distribute electric scooters across various districts through its dealer network. The announcement was made during a contract signing ceremony between ABL and Zhejiang Luyuan Electric Vehicle Co. Ltd., held at the BSEC conference room, where Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Md. Nuruzzaman shared details of the project.
