Bodycams Bolster Ballot Security
To ensure a transparent, peaceful, and secure national election, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, has instructed the rapid procurement of sufficient body-worn cameras for law enforcement agencies.
The directive was issued during a meeting on Tuesday, October 28, at the state guesthouse Jamuna. At the meeting, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb noted that preliminary training for police officers has already begun using the body-worn cameras currently in stock.
Other attendees included Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser on Home Affairs, Home Secretary Nasimul Goni, Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, and representatives from various relevant agencies.
The Chief Adviser emphasized, “All possible preparations must be completed swiftly to ensure a fair and peaceful election. Voters must develop confidence that a safe and conducive environment exists for the election.”
He further instructed that the procurement of body-worn cameras and necessary training programs be completed by December, ensuring that any violence or undesirable incidents during the election period can be effectively prevented.
Professor Yunus added, “In addition to strengthening law enforcement capacity to prevent election-related incidents, we must establish a framework where no one has the opportunity to worsen the situation.”
Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that once the new cameras arrive, police officers in every district will be trained. He also noted that the body-worn cameras will allow centralized monitoring of polling station conditions during elections, while also enabling observation from every police station and district superintendent’s office.
