Protesting PUST: Pupils Press Pause on Classes and Exams

As part of a nationwide movement, students of the Faculty of Engineering at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) have launched a program of boycotting classes and examinations. This three-day program will continue until August 26. Additionally, the students are preparing to join the divisional rally in Rajshahi.

Due to the program, all classes and examinations across the departments of the Faculty of Engineering have come to a complete halt. As a result, the university’s academic activities are expected to remain paralyzed for three days.

Students stated that the three-point demand of BSc engineers has long been ignored. At the same time, they alleged that the continued conspiracies of the diploma syndicate are jeopardizing the professional dignity and future career prospects of engineers. In this situation, they have taken the stern decision of boycotting classes and examinations to press for their rightful demands.

Md. Jannatul Naim Jim, a student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, said, “We have been making demands for a long time, but they have repeatedly been ignored. There can be no compromise on our future and professional dignity. That is why we were compelled to take the difficult decision of boycotting classes and exams.”

Monirul Islam, a student of the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering, said, “We want the dignity of engineers to be ensured at the state level. There should be no discrimination of any kind. Tomorrow we will all join the divisional rally in Rajshahi. Students from various universities of engineering across the country will gather there. This rally will give a new momentum to the movement.”

The students further informed that tomorrow (August 24) they will join the Rajshahi divisional rally in groups. Not only students of PUST, but also students from other engineering institutions in Rajshahi Division will attend the rally. They hope this will further broaden the scope of the movement and create stronger pressure at the national level.

According to the students, this rally will serve as a significant milestone in the struggle to realize their demands.
