Bangladesh Bags Bronze and Glory at 66th IMO

Bangladeshi students have earned remarkable success at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), securing three bronze medals and three honorable mentions. All six members of the national team returned home with awards, collectively scoring 113 points in this year's prestigious global mathematics contest.

This marks Bangladesh’s 21st appearance at the IMO, where the bronze medals were awarded to Jitendra Barua of Baklia Government College, Chattogram (24 points), Jawad Hamim Chowdhury of Ideal School and College (22 points), and Tahsin Khan of Mymensingh Zilla School (21 points).

Honorable mentions were awarded to M. Jamiul Hossain of RAJUK Uttara Model College (18 points), Monami Zaman of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (15 points), and Md. Raihan Siddiqui of Chittagong College (13 points).

The results were finalized at the official jury meeting held on Friday, July 18, from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM local time at the Sunshine Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia. National team leaders and deputy leaders from all participating countries attended the session, where it was decided that students scoring above 35 out of 42 would receive gold medals, those above 28 would receive silver, and scores above 19 would earn bronze.

Prior to the jury meeting, participants sat for two rigorous exam sessions on July 15 and 16, tackling a total of six problems in geometry, combinatorics, number theory, and algebra. Each day allowed 4.5 hours of problem-solving, totaling 9 hours of competition. The Bangladeshi team was coached by Mahbubul Alam Majumdar.

With this achievement, Bangladesh’s total medal tally at the IMO now stands at 1 gold, 7 silver, 40 bronze, and 47 honorable mentions.
