A fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in Tikatuli, Dhaka early Wednesday morning, prompting a swift response from the Fire Service. According to Shahjahan Shikder, acting officer of the Fire Service Media Cell, the blaze was brought under control after a two-hour effort by seven firefighting units.

The incident occurred on the third floor of a building named Mamun Plaza, where the chemical storage facility was located. The fire was first reported around 5:00 AM on July 2, and by 7:00 AM, it was under control.

Shahjahan Shikder stated, “We received the fire alert at Mamun Plaza around 5:00 AM. Seven units were deployed to contain the blaze, while three additional units arrived at the scene.”

Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector at the Fire Service, confirmed they received reports of the fire at the chemical storage on the third floor of Mamun Plaza in Hatkhola early in the morning.

Deputy Director of the Fire Service Saleh Uddin later informed the media that it was difficult to ascertain what type of chemicals were stored in the warehouse, as no representatives of the owning party were present during the operation.

"Due to the lack of information and the hazardous nature of the site, controlling the fire was particularly challenging,” said Saleh Uddin, adding, “We used both foam and water to manage the situation.”

He further noted that several families resided on the other floors of the building and were safely evacuated. No casualties were reported in the incident. However, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be immediately determined, according to Fire Service officials.
