Spotify Surges with Subscriber Spike in Q1 2025
Music streaming giant Spotify gained 5 million new premium subscribers in the first quarter of 2025, bringing its total premium user base to 268 million — marking a 12% increase year-on-year. According to a report by TechCrunch, this represents the company’s highest net subscriber addition in a first quarter since 2020.
During the same period, Spotify posted a record operating profit of nearly $528 million, although the figure fell slightly short of expectations. On an annual basis, the company’s total revenue rose by 15%, reaching approximately $4.8 billion.
Spotify's total monthly active users have now reached 678 million, of which 423 million are supported by advertisements.
The company has also expanded its AI-powered playlist feature to over 40 countries, including the Bahamas, Ghana, Kenya, and Singapore. Many industry observers believe that these innovative features are helping to drive Spotify’s ongoing user growth.
