WhatsApp Web to Welcome Voice and Video Calling

Meta-owned messaging giant WhatsApp is reportedly working to introduce voice and video calling features on its browser version, according to WABetaInfo. Once implemented, the new feature will allow users to make calls directly from their computers without needing to download any dedicated app.

Currently, voice and video calls are only possible through WhatsApp's desktop applications for Mac and Windows. However, the upcoming update is expected to enable these features directly within web browsers, offering a significant convenience for users who prefer not to install software on office computers.

Though the feature is still under development, an early preview has already been leaked, suggesting that its launch could be imminent.

Previously, in March, WhatsApp rolled out a "Call Menu" feature allowing users to join individual or group calls directly from chats, or send links to invite others to join a call.

Industry watchers speculate that this new functionality could further boost WhatsApp's popularity — especially at a time when Microsoft is set to discontinue Skype from May 5.
